Blocks A & E: Grades on Edward Scissorhands Analysis

Dear Blocks A and E,

Good evening! On Aspen x2, you will find your grades for our first major assignment, the Edward Scissorhands Analytical Essay, under EdSEssay.

This analytical essay is out of 50 points. What I looked for, in grading this assignment, was:

  1. An effective analysis accompanied with references and reason– being able to choose 2 mis-en-scene elements and express your reasoning as to why they are important components of the movie.
  2. An effective summary of plot events.
  3. A coherent expression of opinion– this means going above and beyond just stating your opinion of the film. You are citing particular instances of the film that you liked or disliked, in order to back up your claim.

For Block A, the average score was a 43.96 out of 50, or an 87.92 (B+). The highest grade was a perfect 50 out of 50, or an 100 (A+), while the lowest grade was a 0 out of 50, or a 0 (F).

For Block E, the average score was a 48.3 out of 50, or a 96.6 (A). The highest grade was a perfect 50 out of 50, or an 100 (A+), while the lowest grade was a 37 out of 50, or a 74 (C).

Please understand the importance of completing and submitting your work on time. A zero on any major assignment will drastically impact your grade, which will impact your overall GPA.

The overall averages calculated here are far lower than necessary due to the number of students that refused to complete or turn in assignments. It is better to try and revise than to not try at all.

Though this course is an elective, it does count for credit and will impact your overall GPA. A failing or almost failing grade in an elective may impact your eligibility for extracurriculars or even graduation (if you are a Senior).

For those who diligently completed their work with effort and merit, your grade will reflect it. For those who did not, may your grade be a lesson to try your best, to ask for help if you need it and, if it does come down to it, submit whatever you may possibly have– because anything is better than nothing.

If you have any questions or comments about your grade on this assignment, or any others, please see me or write me an email.

Thank you,
Ms. F
